Brig RS Jamwal did his schooling from Lawrence School Sanawar, Shimla Hills and joined NDA in 1973 to be commissioned as officer into the Indian Army in 1976. He did his BSc, MSc and MBA while in service. A graduate of Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, Joint Services Staff College, Canberra, Australia and College of Defence Management, Secunderabad, he is widely traveled, having been posted to Namibia & Australia and visited Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Canada, USA, Dubai, Kenya, Botswana, Zimbabwe and South Africa. He has seen warlike situations in Mizoram, Nagaland, Srinagar and Siachen Glacier (the highest battle field on earth). He has 18 years experience in coaching officers of the Indian Army and has organised three recruitment rallies in 1998, 2006 & 2007. He was Chairman Kendriya Vidhyalaya Sanjuwan and Chairman of Sanjuwan Army School. He retired from Army after 36 years service in Jul 2012 and established Lakshya Defence Academy in Jammu on 01 Jul 2013 to impart training to all aspirants who wish to join the Belt Forces as Officers or as Soldiers.
